Bastakia is the oldest and the original site of Dubai. With so much glass and tall steel structures rapidly spreading throughout the city, it is often hard to imagine Dubai as it was originally. Here in Bastakia are the last remaining buildings that have been carefully preserved to show you the roots from which modern Dubai has grown. Originally the Bastakia District was a thriving seaport town, no bigger than a small western village is these days.

It was always busy as a trading and fishing hub with many visitors coming to conduct business from throughout the region and further afield. It is perhaps no surprise that Dubai’s reputation began to grow from these humble beginnings.
